The objective of this course is to provide acupuncturists with a framework for understanding and treating the complex patterns and symptoms related to menopause via the far-reaching impact of the 8 Extraordinary Vessels.

The theories presented in this class are drawn from both ancient and modern scholars such as Li Shi Zhen, Jeffrey Yuen and others who have recognized the value of the 8 Extras in treating disorders related to the 7/8 year cycles of Jing.

Dr. Farrell will compare the Chinese and the Western theories of menopause. After re-framing the definition of menopause as a woman's "second spring," she will discuss the gifts of menopause.

She will then review signs and symptoms and diagnosis, explain how and why the 8 Extras can be helpful, and offer specific treatment protocols.

Finally, Dr. Farrell will share common herbal formulas and self-help techniques for changes in diet and lifestyle that will help patients achieve meaningful results.
