This course provides an in-depth exploration of the autonomic nervous system and its connection to the Acupuncture YIN-YANG theory. With a focus on the polyvagal theory, originally developed by Stephen Porges, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the nervous system as a spectrum between safety and danger. The course covers the two distinct branches of the parasympathetic nervous system: the ventral branch which triggers a feeling of safety and connection, and the dorsal branch which triggers self-preservation mechanisms of shutdown and isolation. Additionally, the course examines the fight or flight response of the sympathetic system. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own reactions and triggers and learn techniques to tone and balance their interpretations and responses. Finally, the course explores the use of acupuncture and other Chinese and Japanese treatment modalities to regulate and treat the nervous system for optimal flexibility and safety.
